Barbara Shaw and Rachel Wright are experienced textile artists, with differing approaches to this fascinating and diverse medium.
Barbara uses fabric like paint to create her stunning compositions depicting various subject matters, such as portraiture, architecture, still life, wildlife and more. From a distance, her collages appear to be paintings, but up close the textures, threads and beautiful intricacies are visible.
‘I am really excited about exhibiting with professional textile artist and friend, Rachel Wright, whose work I love. It will be a one off opportunity to see our art together on the walls of the fantastic venue of The Courtyard Art Studio in the beautiful setting of Claydon Estate.’
Rachel’s mesmerising work is often inspired by the natural world, with coastal landscapes being a particular love of hers. She borrows the shapes, colours and details from her subject matters and echoes them delicately in hand or machine embroidered collages.
‘I am delighted that The Courtyard Art Studio have invited me to share an exhibition with fellow textile artist Barbara Shaw… If you love textile art, or if the medium is new to you but you are curious to know more, then put the date in your diary. Barbara and I will be in situ demonstrating our techniques and we will be happy to chat to visitors and answer any questions about our work.’
Another exciting event not to be missed at The Studio! We look forward to seeing you there.
When planning your visit to the exhibition, on from Sat 24th Aug - Sun 1 Sept (closed Thurs and Fri), don’t forget that there’s free parking on site and entry to the exhibition is free. Why not make a day of it? The Phoenix Kitchen will be serving an array of tasty treats and the shops and galleries in The Courtyard will be open as usual, 11am - 5pm. And of course the National Trust’s Claydon House is also open to visitors (Saturday to Wednesday).
