Getting to know your Sewing Machine

Tutor: Sylvia Downton

Dates available:

  • 7 August

Half day course: 1.30 - 4pm

With sewing and dressmaking becoming ever more popular, there are a wealth of machines available on the market with every attachment and function you could wish for - but how do they all work and what are the attachments for? This course will help you to understand how your machine works so you can use it with confidence without having to reach for the manual!

We will cover:

  • Threading

  • Inserting a bobbin

  • Stitch length and width - how to adjust and why

  • Using speciality stitches

  • Making your life easier with speciality feet

  • Basic machine maintenance

During the course, you will put your new found knowledge into practice and make a practical pincushion.

By the end of the course, you will have the confidence and understanding to continue working with your sewing machine at home.

This course is suitable for beginners or those looking to refresh their knowledge.

You will need:

  • Your own sewing machine

  • The manual, if possible

  • The accessories for the machine including feet

Materials Fee:

There will be a £5 materials fee, payable in cash to the tutor at the start of the course, to cover the materials used for the pincushion.

Book this course together with “Demystifying Dressmaking” for £80 for the day. Click here to book both.
