Getting to know your Digital SLR Camera

Tutor: Bex Gouverneur

Date Available:

  • 11 July 2020 (Sat)

1 day course: 10am - 4pm

A wonderful and unique opportunity to unleash the full potential of your Digital SLR camera. This day workshop will give you all the skills needed to make the most out of your camera by practicing taking pictures in both the studio and outside in the beautiful gardens and parkland at Claydon.

This one day course is suitable for absolute beginners or those with some photography experience who wish to make better use of their digital SLR camera and improve the quality of their images.

After a brief tour of your camera and an overview of the basic functions including how to move away from the “fully automatic mode,” you will venture outside under the close guidance of Bex.  Whilst out on location you will be given demonstrations and simple tasks to complete which allow you to explore different aspects of photography including composition, focus, colour and space. If the weather does not allow us to be outside, a range of still life set ups will be available in the studio instead.

In the afternoon, there will be time for group discussions, critique and guidance as well as some more independent work around the interpretation of a set theme.

 You will leave with:

  • An understanding of the different camera modes (Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority & Program)

  • An understanding of how aperture, shutter speed and ISO affect a photograph

  • Knowledge of a range of composition techniques which can be used to improve your photography

  • A range of photographs demonstrating different technical aspects of photography

Your course fee includes the garden entrance fee.

 What to bring:

Students will need to bring a digital SLR camera with a full battery and an empty SD or Flash memory card

A laptop with editing software would be advantageous but certainly not essential.
