2 Day Plein Air Painting Workshop with Roger Dellar ROI - PS - RI

180.00

Tutor: Roger Dellar ROI - PS - RI

Dates Available:

  • 20 - 21 July 2020 (Mon & Tues)

2 day course: 10am - 4pm

This course is set within the beautiful gardens and grounds of Claydon Estate and is designed for those looking to develop their plein air painting, under the expert guidance of Roger Dellar. Roger will show you how to paint landscapes, in situ, within a limited time frame of 1.5 - 2.5 hours.

Each day will begin with a demonstration in oils. Roger will break down the process of landscape painting and guide you in how to:

  • Select a composition

  • Handle the paint, working in layers

  • Simplify a painting in order to complete it within 1.5 hours

  • Include a figure within the landscape

  • Bring the painting to a conclusion

There will be plenty of time for one-to-one guidance and tuition so that Roger may address any individual needs and areas you wish to work on, for example, tone, perspective and colour mixing.

Students can choose to work in oils or acrylics. Roger will be working and demonstrating in oils. Students should bear in mind that hot weather conditions (this course is in July) will cause acrylics to dry quicker than normal.

This course is suitable for those with some experience of painting who want to develop their knowledge and skill set in the practice of plein air painting.

Students will be encouraged to fully engage with the painting process while worrying less about the end ‘product’. You will leave with a greater understanding about the use of paint, an understanding of professional plein air techniques and the confidence to utilise these within your own practice.

What to bring;

Students will need to bring their own painting equipment and materials. A full materials list with recommendations will be sent out closer to the course.

Students will need to bring their own field easel such as a french box easel, pochade easel or similar.

Roger Dellar works from his studio in Surrey.  He has a keen interest in people and their behaviour, and is fascinated by the way the play of light transforms a subject; either working in the studio or plein air. He is a member of The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, The Pastel Society, and The Royal Institute of Oil Painters.  Since 1996 has been an active member of The Wapping Group.
