Claydon House Art Exhibition: The People’s Landscape; Call for Entries


Saturday 7 September – Wednesday 2 October 2019

Claydon House, Middle Claydon, Buckinghamshire, MK18 2EX

Artists are invited to submit an original painting under the theme of The People’s Landscape; a painting that is inspired by the British Landscape.

Selected paintings will be exhibited within the National Trust’s Claydon House for 4 weeks, from Saturday 7 September - Wednesday 2 October 2019.

The exhibition includes several prizes and awards, open to all participating artists.


Artists must be living and working in the UK and over the age of 18.

Acceptable media: Original framed paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolour, gouache or mixed media.

All works must be for sale. A 40% commission will be taken on all sales. Proceeds raised from the sale of work will go towards the renovation of the Claydon House library ceiling.

Number of works submitted: 1 per artist

Submission fee: £12 inc VAT.

Framing must be to a professional standard and securely tied with picture chord for ease of hanging.

Work must have been completed in the last three years.

Works must not be larger than 1.5m along the longest dimension when framed.

Labelling: All works to be labelled twice, once on the back and with one hanging label over the front of the painting. On the label, please include; Name of Artist, Title of Work, Medium and Price.

All exhibiting artists will be invited to the Opening & Prize Ceremony from 3pm on Saturday 7 September 2019.

The responsibility for damage or loss, however caused, is the responsibility of the artist. Artists are therefore advised to arrange adequate insurance cover against such risks. The Claydon House Art Exhibition and associated parties shall not be liable for any loss or damage, whether or not caused by their negligence.

Works selected for exhibition cannot be removed before the end of the exhibition. 

The copyright for all works exhibited in the Claydon House Art Exhibition will remain the property of the artist, but it is a condition of entry that the artist agrees that the Claydon House Art Exhibition and associated parties may reproduce any exhibited works, free of charge, for the purposes of marketing, promotion, discussion and education in direct connection with the exhibition.

The Claydon House Art Exhibition reserves the right to disqualify any piece of work if the artist has not adhered to the rules, even if the work has been selected for exhibition.

Important Dates

Submission opens: Monday 4 March, 12 noon

Submission closes: Sunday 30 June, 12 midnight

Acceptance notification: Wednesday 10 July

Delivery of art work: Thursday 5 & Friday 6 September, 10am – 4pm

Exhibition opens: Saturday 7 September, 11am to 4pm

Opening & Award Ceremony: Saturday 7 September, 3pm

Exhibition closes: Wednesday 2 October, 4pm

Collection of unsold work: Thursday 3 & Friday 4 October, 10am – 4pm


The selection committee is formed of Peter and Kimberley Keegan (the directors of The Courtyard Art Studio), a representative from the National Trust’s Claydon House and two additional parties, from the local art world.  

The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into. Artists should be aware that all works are judged on an equal and anonymous basis and that there is no segregated judging by region, experience or ability.

All entrants will be notified whether or not their work has been selected for the exhibition by Wednesday 10 July 2019. If the artist is selected they will be required to send or deliver their work to Claydon House to arrive on the 5 or 6 September 2019.

Delivery & Collection

Packaging from delivered works cannot be retained and must be taken away at the point of delivery.

We are unable to wrap works or provide wrapping materials for any works being returned.

Paintings should be completely dry at the time of delivery.

Any work uncollected on the specified collection date/s will be stored at a separate location and the artist will be charged a storage fee.

Prizes & Awards

There will be a selection of prizes awarded at the opening ceremony on Saturday 7 September from 3pm. Winning Artists will be notified a few days ahead of this date.

Please note that postal or email entries will not be accepted.

The sale price of the artwork must include the 40% commission.

Once we have received your entry form and payment, you will receive an email with instructions on how to send us an image of your entry. Entries must be submitted as JPEG files no larger than 5MB.
